On 8 May 1950, brothers Viggo and Emil Højgaard were working the Bjældskovdal bog west of Silkeborg when they uncovered a man lying in the peat with his eyes and mouth gently closed. His eyelashes were there. So was the stubble on his chin, and the fine creases at the corners of his eyes. Around his neck, drawn tight and trailing down his back, was a noose of plaited animal hide. He had been in the ground for roughly twenty-four centuries.]]></description>
