Sete Cidades National Park: Introduction

The park's rock formations are grouped into seven clusters, each treated as a settlement in its own right, and the entrance arrangement follows the fiction exactly — a set price for three hours, a higher one if you want to reach the further cities. It is an oddly bureaucratic way to encounter a landscape that looks, from the ground, like the ruined masonry of something enormous. Weather has spent a very long time working on this rock in a dry corner of Piauí, and the results have the specificity of architecture: walls, arches, towers, a head, an elephant.
