Nineteen centuries after someone gathered this man's hair above his right temple and fastened it into a loop, the loop holds — reddish-brown now, dyed by bog acid, though it began as dark blond. Almost nothing else of him came through. No body, no face, no hands. Just a skull, small patches of scalp, and a hairstyle that the Roman historian Tacitus had described from hearsay not long before this man died.
