At 06:15 on the morning of 14 December 1944, some 200 kilograms of explosive brought down the second-tallest tower in Europe. Odinstårnet — the Odin Tower — had stood on Bolbro Bakke at the western edge of Odense for nine years and seven months, and only the Eiffel Tower had been taller. The men who set the charges were not German. They were Danes, working for the occupier against their own city, and they chose the tower for exactly the reason Odense loved it: because losing it would hurt.
