The names are written down. In the parish register of St Petri in Ladelund, in the hand of the village pastor, Johannes Meyer, are the names of the men who died in the camp on the edge of his village in the last weeks of 1944 — three hundred of them, out of more than two thousand who arrived. He entered each one, and he had them buried in the churchyard with Christian rites, in nine graves at the cemetery's edge. That is why Ladelund is not an anonymous place. Most satellite camps left their dead as numbers. This one left a list of people.
