InterCity express ICL 210 left Odense at 07:11 with 131 passengers and three crew aboard, bound for Copenhagen — people going back to work after New Year, reading, dozing, watching the flat Funen countryside give way to open water. Twenty-four minutes later, out on the low West Bridge of the Great Belt Fixed Link, eight of them were dead.
